Project Amazon 2004 journeyed to the Brazilian Amazon. The expedition members spent three months living and working in the Amazon forest alongside local communities. The expedition was initiated as a component of a larger study into the effects of logging on the use of nontimber forest products by local communities.

The aim of the expedition was to investigate the effects of logging on game animal populations. Many indigenous Amazonian peoples rely upon game animals as their primary protein source. Three sites were used. Initial comparisons reveal that the impacts of human activity, be it logging or hunting, appear to have detrimental impacts on wildlife populations, be they hunting targets or not. However, logging has complex effects upon animal populations, and indeed appears to benefit some species indeed.
